At Acura Carland in Roswell, GA, we offer drivers many maintenance and service options. Frequently we get asked how Acura drivers can keep their vehicles running smoothly between service appointments. Last week we talked about how to check your tire air pressure on your tires. This week we are talking about the importance of your Acura’s oil levels and how to make sure those levels are where they should be.

Why is oil important?

Oil helps keep your engine running smoothly. The oil acts as a gentle lubricant between all of the heated parts of your engine.

How do I check my oil levels?

  1. You will need to use your Acura’s dipstick to check your oil level.
  2. Remove dipstick and wipe it clean with a lint free rag.
  3. Reinsert the dipstick back into the oil.
  4. Pull the dipstick back out.
  5. Note how high the oil has reach on the dipstick.
    • You will see two lines on your dipstick. If the oil level is between the two lines it is sufficiently filled.
    • If the oil level is below the first line you need to add more.
  6. If you need to add oil
    • Do not pour oil down the little spout that you pulled the dipstick out of.
    • Look at the largest part of your engine - there should be a little cap that is about the size and shape of a milk lid that says “Oil Cap”. That is where you add the oil.
