Motor oil is is vital to the health of your vehicle’s engine health. That’s why Acura Carland in Duluth, Georgia wants to be sure our customers know how to check your engine oil like a professional. Your local Acura dealership in Duluth, Georgia wants to help our Alpharetta, Marietta, and Atlanta, Georgia area neighbors ensure peak engine performance and longevity. To properly check your oil levels:

  1. Be sure your car is parked on level ground and that your engine has been cooling down for at least 10-15 minutes

  2. Pop the hood of your vehicle and ensure the engine is off

  3. Locate your oil dipstick. If you have trouble immediately locating it, consult your owner’s manual

  4. Remove your dipstick and wipe it from handle to tip with a clean rag or paper towel

  5. Reinsert the dipstick, being sure to fully reinsert the dipstick. Wait for a moment, then remove it again

  6. Check the oil on both sides of the dipstick. The indicators towards the bottom of the stick will show you if the oil is low, normal, or high

  7. Be aware of the color and consistency of the oil on the stick to help you determine your current oil’s effectiveness. If the oil looks black, thick, gritty, or milky, it is a good indication that you are in need of an oil change

  8. Finally, wipe the dipstick off again and replace it back into its tube, being sure it is fully inserted before closing the hood
