The Booth Western Art Museum

The Booth Western Art Museum works in association with the Smithsonian Institute to bring visitors art that represents America’s rich story. From Native American artifacts to presidential letters and portraits, this 120,000-square-foot museum offers visitors of all ages the opportunity to view the largest permanent exhibition space for Western art in the country. Some of the museum's permanent exhibits include: Mythic West, Faces of the West, and Native Hands. Some temporary collections on display this spring include: Creating Camelot: The Kennedy Photography of Jaques Lowe going on April 12-August 28 and Ansel Adams: The Masterworks displayed April 8-October 29. Admission is free on the first Thursday of each month from 4 PM-8 PM. Regular admission is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors, $7 for students, and free for children 12 and under as well as active military personnel. While you are in the area, there are also a number of other exciting things to explore, such as Red Top Mountain State Park, the Tellus Science Museum, the Bartow History Museum, and the Etowah Indian Mounds State Historic Site.
The Chestatee Wildlife Preserve, A North Georgia Zoo

This non-profit preserve sits on 30 acres of farmland and cares for more than 125 animals with species from around the world. See elk, lions, wolves, grizzly bears, Siberian tigers, and more and take the opportunity to interact with creatures from around the globe. Feel free to take a picnic lunch and observe the day-to-day lives of these animals while being cared for by the volunteers at the reserve. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children 11 and under.

Black Rock Mountain State Park is Georgia’s highest state park as it sits astride the Eastern Continental Divide at 3,640 ft. This park encompasses some of the most outstanding country in Georgia’s Blue Ridge Mountains. This 1,743-acre state park boasts a 17-acre lake and fantastic camping opportunities. For those who enjoy roughing it, there are 38 campsites, for those on a cross-country adventure, there are also RV and camper hookups, and if you enjoy more amenities, there are also 10 great cottages for rent for a fantastic stay in the park. There are also great trails and picnic spots to enjoy during your visit in addition to a small playground and lots of fishing opportunities. There is no per-person admittance fee, however parking is $5. For more exciting things to see in the area, check out Foxfire Museum and Heritage Center, Great Smoky Mountains National Park, and the Lake Burton Fish Hatchery.
