We here at Acura Carland can’t believe how fast the year is going by! With summer right around the corner we’ve been getting a lot of questions from our Duluth Acura drivers about what they can do to keep their Acuras in top condition. One easy to perform DIY maintenance task that anyone can do is the penny tread test. What is the penny tread test? It is a simple way of making sure that your vehicle’s tires have the correct amount of tread.

Why is your tread so important? Tread helps your tires stick to the road in all conditions. Your tread helps to prevent you from hydroplaning and sliding on the road.

The Penny Tread Test

Steps:

  1. First, insert a penny - head down, between the grooves in the tread on your tire.
    • If you can see all of Lincoln’s hair you should get new tires.
    • If you only see Lincoln’s head you should think about getting new tires sometime soon.
    • If you cover a portion of Lincoln’s forehead your tires are fine for the time being.
